What Causes Pain In Hip And Buttocks?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Apr 2014
Question: 3 weeks ago I started getting a pain in my hip, located in my left buttock. It was so bad I was walking sideways. Over time, and throughout the day it travelled up to my waist, and down my thigh (in the front), down through my leg, and resulted in a cramp in my foot. I was told I had a lazy muscle in my left buttock about 6 months ago. Prescribed exercises have not helped. Any ideas please? After rest the pain does ease, but with any movement the muscles seem to start to stiffen, and the pain returns, and increases steadily. I'm walking with a limp, although I try to stay in a straight position. I have noticed that my left foot turns outwards, which I try to correct, and when I stand my legs are apart, probably for balance, again which I try to correct. Lying down is painful. If I lie on my left side it hurts, whereas in the past this has helped to dull/numb the pain. lying on my right side it feels as if I'm stretching muscles in my hip, and is very painful at times. It's just lasting a long time. I take 2 ponstan when it's bad, if I'm in work, and 50% of the time it does not help with this problem. I did not fall, slip, trip or anything like that. I have torn a ligament in the same area in the past, but this does not feel like the same thing.

Brief Answer: Get x-rays done. Detailed Answer: Hi, I have gone through your query. For your exact diagnosis to be made you need to be physically examined by orthopedic surgeon who will advise you x-ray pelvis with both hips in AP view and x-ray of lumbo-sacral spine in AP and Lateral view. He then tally the report of x-rays and his physical findings to make proper diagnosis and if needed advise you MRI scan to know the present condition of your nerves and soft tissue. Till then you can take tab.aceclofenac+thiocolchicoside and tramadol tablet by discussing it with your doctor. You sty to avoid smoking as much as you can as smoking further causes damage to your body. You must have regular follow up with your doctor for blood pressure and asthma. I hope it helps. If you find my answer excellent, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer 5 points for me, so that I get a good feedback. Thanks. Dr.Singh.

X rays in the past didn't show up anything. I was referred to a physiotherapist, but as I said, the exercises given to me do not seem to be working. Have you any idea what it could be, or how I might improve the situation at all. To be very honest, I couldn't afford further tests as you have suggested, and if the results were same as last time it would be a waste of time.

Brief Answer: Consult your physiotherapist to change exercises. Detailed Answer: Thanks for the query again. You should consult your physiotherapist again so that he/she can change your exercises or you can see on you tube. It could be nerve compression/ damage which leads to lazy muscle. But my friend exact diagnosis can only be made you physical examination by orthopedic surgeon and MRI scan. Till then you can take tab.aceclofenac+thiocolchicoside and tramadol tablet by discussing it with your doctor. - Avoid heavy weight lifting pushing and pulling heavy objects, because it will further increase back pain. - Apply hot packs for 30 min in morning and evening . You try to avoid smoking as much as you can as smoking further causes damage to your body.
