What Causes Pain In Head Travelling Down The Neck?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 May 2014
Question: Hi,
I've just experienced sharp sudden pains in what appears to be the brain or scalp area (perhaps just at the back and right of the head specifically but it seems to travel down to the neck and to the front and right of the head) after pushing my head back backwards. I have experienced these before. Is there any idea what causes the sharp and sudden pains which only last for a moment. Is there anything internally in the brain area that could cause these pains.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Cervical problem

Detailed Answer:
Dear
as you explain your symptoms, it seems the origin of your problem might be a little protrusion on cervical spine.
I recommend you to undertake a cervical MRI and then start treatment to avoid pain.
It is fully treatable so you don't have to worry to much.

Dear Dr. Ranxha,

Thanks for the explanation. Could it also be something within the brain itself because there was a crackling sensation in the brain area around the right side where there is a depression in the skull and also seemed to be behind the eye.

If I repeat the movement of my head backwards, it doesn't cause the sensation again, it seemed to be an isolated incident. Given the high cholesterol, could it be some blood vessels rupturing or very minor or XXXXXXX stroke within the brain that could cause these symptoms?

Thanks and regards,

Brief Answer:
Not a stroke

Detailed Answer:
Dear
I know you are concerned but a brain damage has more symptoms and rarely just pain.
Anyway it is the neurological examination which give great insurance about the cause of that sensation so my recommendation is to take contact to a neurologist.
You don't have to worry,in my opinion it is just a headache with no brain damage
Don't hesitate to contact me for further queries
