What Causes Pain In Hamstring?

default
Posted on Sat, 10 Jan 2015
Question: I have been having pain in my legs where the butt meets the ham string in the rear of my leg. It seems worse in the morning and goes away during the day. It really hurts if I cough. If I play tennis the pain is bad when I start and by the time I am done playing, the pain is gone. When I go to sit down it hurts when i am about half way down in my motion to sit. It only hurts at that point. Not before or after that position. Do you have an idea of what my problem is? Thanks, XXXX

Brief Answer:
It is most likely muscular pain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you may be having muscular pain probably due to muscle pull as it hurts only at some points of motion.Treatment of it is rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. Vitamin B and C is help in recovery.

Second possibility is that you may be having lumbar spondylosis with some osteophytes pressing over nerves as it is common in your age. But as it is not constant and not radiating to legs so it is less likely. It can be excluded by MRI of lumbar spine. Its treatment is rest ,analgesic and Mecobalamin.
I want to know from you since when(how many days) you are having pain.
You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.
