What Causes Pain In Groin Area Post Hiking?

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Sep 2015
Question: I have been on a hiking holiday (3 weeks ago) five days of hill climbing - ups and downs- walking up to 32 kms per day. Knees quite sore at the end of the walk - with the right knee very swollen. Had acupuncture which was very effective. Knees now ok but I had been walking quite stiffly while they were inflamed. I have now developed groin pain in my left thigh - pain when I initially bear weight but eases as I walk. Could this be a result of some weakness from hiking and also the stiff gait I had ( for aboard a week) when my knee was inflamed?
I would appreciate any information/ advice you could give. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Can be a muscle sprain or ligament tear.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the groin can be due to a muscle sprain or a ligament tear related to stress. It can also develop inflammation due to the painful gait. A direct examination and investigations like MRI scan are needed to find out the cause.
It is best to take rest for a few days and do a regular hot compress for the inflammation to subside. Continuing the hiking can cause a tear to develop in the already inflamed joint.
I hope this answers your query.
