Question: I m 27 yr old female. I m having pain in my right eyelid. near my eyelashes, there is a small inflammation / lump/ swelling. this is the reason of pain. here its summer. is this cos of heat? I have had this before twice. once the lump had become very big making it very visible and difficult to blink easily. there is no itching, watering of the eye or color change within the eye. previously this has occurred both in summers. both times I didn't take any treatment. it did last a few days on both ocassions. for the past 2 yes I have hair wash only 3 times a week due to fogg allergyand after hair bath my eyes are always red ( I think due to heat ). wat should I do to reduce swelling? how should I prevent this? I have specs for short sight

Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
From your description it seems like a stye. It happens when there is staphylococcal infection of the internal glands of the eyelid.
For stye, you can try the following:
- warm compresses over the eyelid three to four times a day
- antibiotic ointment or eyedrops containing ofloxacin or sulfacetamide upto 4 times a day
- Avoid rubbing the eye
- If the swelling is large or it does not get better with eye drops, it will need incision and drainage by an eye doctor (ophthalmologist).
For redness of eyes after bath, if it gets better on its own, then it does not need treatment. If it lasts for sometime, then you can try visine eye drops. These should be instilled only if needed. You can also try anti-allergic eye drops that contain chlorpheniramine.
Hope it helps.
