What Causes Pain In Clitoris After An Intercourse?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Jun 2014
Question: Hi,
So I have a small problem.
Quite embarrassing. But after having sex with my boyfriend I'm generally quite sore. No matter how soft or rough we are.
We had sex Saturday night. And I noticed some pain on my clitorus area. We used lube and everything too.
The next day I noticed it was swollen. (The hood was so swollen, it made the area look abnormal)
The next day I could pull the hood back and I found a red raw patch. It's tender, sting and painful.

detailed answer below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I understand the issue. Please do not be embarrassed. These are common issues and I am glad that you are seeking help for these.

There are a few causes of soreness and cuts as you described. The commonest cause is infection. Sometimes there are subclinical infections ( infections that are low grade and cannot be detected clinically). These may be present in any of the partners.

Other reasons are a narrow vagina, lack of enough lubrication, short vagina, low estrogen.

There are many causes of pain during intercourse. Vaginismus is a condition where there are spasms in the vaginal muscles during intercourse because of fear of getting hurt.
Pelvic inflammatory diseases are infections of the uterus tubes and ovaries and may cause pain. Endometriosis is menstruation inside the abdomen and a very common cause of painful intercourse. Ovarian cysts, long cervix are other conditions that cause pain.

If the complaint is mostly that you get cuts and bruises then the narrow, short, infected or dry vagina etc may be causing it. If the complaint is mainly pain during intercourse then any of the above can cause it.

As of now as the area is swollen, use cold compresses to help decrease the swelling. Ointments like neosporin only on the clitoris will help heal cuts. See your doctor and get examined for the cause. Then proper treatment will help in curing your problem.

Do not worry and please do not feel shy in asking and going to a doctor. These are common complaints in women and we are here to help you with them.

Hope this was helpful.
