What Causes Pain In Breasts?

Posted on Thu, 26 Feb 2015
Question: Hi,
January 1, 2015 I went to the Er because i was having pain on my right breast when I would stretch my arm to my back.( when I would move my chest to the right.) Doesn't hurt otherwise. It's the first intial stretch only. They gave me a chest XRAY and a breast exam with their hands. They didn't see anything on the Xray or feel anything on my breast exam. My breats are small you can feel my ribs easy when I lay down. They diagnosis me with Costochondritis. So they told me not to do that stretch anymore which I didn't for 2 weeks. On January 15 to 25 I would try it and it wouldn't hurt I would only feel it when I would laugh but not all the time. So I knew I wasn't completely healed. Than January 26th i repetitively used that arm and I felt something like if I opened the wound again. And now it feels like day 1 again. Is this normal? The pain is only there when I stretch but one I stretch I could leave my arm like that and It won't hurt just the initial stretch.

Detailed Answer:
Good evening mam

thank you for writing on health care magic

I have gone through your history and the previous questions asked which mentioned the origin of pain. Well the pain you are describing looks more of a muscular along with Costochondirits. Since it hurts when you laugh and when you try to stretch there is a possibility that the muslcyou laugh more or when you stretch especially in the initial part, it probably has involved both the tendons and the muscles. But yes, it is taking time to heal. Since the period you had experienced between 15h -25th January where it was getting better , but now the pain increased due to overuse is more suggestive of a mechanical component of pain.

You can try some NSAIDS along with local application of gels and hot water bottle and avoid overusing that arm for a while till it gets totally better. Dont worry, it doesn't sound 2 serious or anything, nothing like a tumor. But yes the healing time is delayed and it is quite normal in such conditions. It will eventually get better. Dont strain too much on it

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Thanks for your reply

Well this sort of pain describe s a muscular pain, precipitated at certain angles and relieved at rest

Chest x ray can pick up a lung tumour but not the breast one. To be specific for breast tumor, clinical examination, ultrasound examination and mammogram are the most specific. Chest x ray doesn't pick up the breast one.

I doubt from your symptoms if it is breast tumor. I will suggest you give it some more time to heal. If it doesn't get better then you can get these investigations done

Hope the information was useful
