Brief Answer:
This could be due to bladder distended with enlarged Prostate.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have noticed pain in abdomen when you press below umbilicus .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Do you have other urinary symptoms like increased frequency for urination ,urgency for urination ,weak urinary stream, nocturia etc suggestive of Enlarged Prostate which is common at this age ?
2) Have you done any investigations to assess the cause of your problem ?

This is mostly due to your bladder being over distended overnight.

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and Digital Rectal examination and get following basic tests done to rule out Enlarged Prostate.
1) Routine urine test
2) Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen and pelvis with specific mention of Post Void Urine residue.
3) Serum PSA.
4) Uroflowmetry.

Further treatment will depend upon the results of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Dear Doctor XXXXXXX

I have no problem with urine flow or frequency. I rarely have to get up in the night.I do have an urgency that when I need to go to the loo I have to go straight away.
I am a type 2 diabetic which is mainly controlled by diet, and this consists of a high protein low carb.

Many Thanks. XXXXXXX
