What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Scalp?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Nov 2017
Question: I was bitten by something on my scalp several days ago. I noticed my lymph nodes behind my ear and neck began to swell the next day. Then bumps on my scalp began to spread over my scalp and onto my forehead. Then my eye was almost swollen shut the past two mornings. There was and is a stinging sensation like a needle being injected into my scalp and eye lid. The symptoms subside with 600 mg of Ibuprofen three times a day but it seems the rash (bumps keep spreading). We are going on five days now with no sign of relief. The scalp and eye lid itches and is painful to the touch. The other side of the neck is beginning to become stiff also.

Brief Answer:
You need additional prescription based treatment and investigations.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Please give additional information for me to assist you better:
Please post the clear and focused photos as these help sometimes for on-the-spot diagnosis.
Do you know the insect that stung? just a possibility.

As per the history you have provided it looks that the edema is spreading through the loose tissue plane below the epicranium layer and above above pericranium allowing it to spread to the eyelids as occurs in black eye after injury over scalp.
Since this is after an insect bite and the problem has persisted you need additional treatment may be with antihistamine and oral steroids if you are not diabetic.
The role of antibiotic may not be there but may be needed if there are signs and symptoms of infection.
Continue taking Ibuprofen as before.

Please consult your Doctor asap as you need proper diagnosis, additional management and investigations.
I hope this answer helps you.
