What Causes Occipital Swollen Nodes On Left Side Of Neck And Hot Flashes?

Question: I have a few lymph nodes that I can feel. They have been checked out by a family physician and I had a sonogram on one that is middle in the front of my neck right about where your neck starts. The Radiologist said it was small under the 1 cm and had good characteristics of a normal node. I do Crossfit and we lift a lot of weight over our heads and a couple of months ago I strained my neck and back doing some lifts and noticed shortly after that two occipital swollen nodes on the back of my neck left side only. Of course I have touched them way too much and I am an obsessive person when it comes to my health. The nodes are still swollen (feel firm but are on top of muscle I think) and I have always been able to feel them to some degree. I had blood work done (my workplace offers that every year and it is pretty extensive) and all my CBC, CMP results were good. I do have a doctor's appointment for February 29th and will consult with him, but I wanted to know from a specialist if some people just have larger nodes? I have always been able to feel the glands in my neck. I workout 6 days a week which involves crossfit and endurance training for a 1/2 marathon. I do suffer from hot flashes and at times chills. My body temp stays between 97.7-98.7 and normally more in the 97.7 range. I do take Levothyroxine 50 mg daily, metoptolol 50 mg qd, singular 10mg qd (I do have constant sinus drainage and with Singular my allergies stay under control), Multivitamin qd. I am just wondering what your thoughts are on the lymph nodes.

Brief Answer:
these nodes are most likely benign

Detailed Answer:
Hi

thanks for writing.

By the description of the nodes and the sonogram, it seems that these are just normal nodes. Nodes are palpable in all individuals and they are usually below 1 cm, as in your case. Moreover, these are present since long. The blood parameters are also normal.

So I can't see any reason for concern. These are surely normal nodes.

Hope this helps. I will be available for follow-up.
Regards

Thank you. The biggest concern I had is the occipital nodes tend to feel more firm and I wondered if it was because of the muscle in my neck in that region. I am glad to hear that nodes are palpable because I am not able to feel any on my family members that I can feel on me.

Brief Answer:
occipital nodes are of least concern

Detailed Answer:
They are seldom of significance. Mostly because of dandruff or scalp/skin infections
