What Causes Occasional Splotchy Vision, Headache And Dizziness?
Question: I have been having "splotchy" vision occasionally accompanied by headache or slight dizziness. I am wondering if I should see a neurologist or a neuro-ophthalmologist? I want to make sure I see the correct type of doctor and not waste money, i have a high deductible plan.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
Since you were already see by an ophthalmologist I suppose issues with the anterior eye compartments have been already excluded.
For that reason I believe that a neurologist would be more appropriate in continuing evaluation. I say that also considering the complex prior history you have had including the concussions, neuritis and the thyroid issues. I believe that makes it more appropriate to be seen by someone who can try to see the whole picture and consider possible connections between them. A neurologist is more likely to be able to do that than someone with a narrower field such as a neuro-ophthalmologist.

Thanks for the information. What areas of "specialty or interest" should I be looking for in a neurologist? Cognitive issues? Concussion? Traumatic brain injury? headache? general neurology?

Hello again! They should all have gone through general neurology during their career. As for a subspecialty a neurologist specialized in headache might be more appropriate as he certainly will have plenty of experience with patients comin from trauma as well.
