What Causes Numbness In The Feet And Fingertips?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 Jul 2016
Question: The last 3-5 months my feet and fingertips would either go numb or severely tingle at the ends. And within the last 3 months my tongue would randomly get hot/tingle/pulsate and at rare times my lips will go numb or feel as if they're asleep. Today at work my face got pretty hot/ached and my tongue twisted a bit and tingled. My doctor sent me to a neurologist and she zapped my feet and legs with some machine probes. When my doctor called me he said I have some minor signs of neuropathy in my right leg. Can this neuropathy travel up to my face or could this be something more serious?

Brief Answer:
Was it one sided or both

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal. I have read your message. I think I can help you.
However, before I answer your query , I need to know if the symptoms are one sided or on both sides.
Frankly, reading our question, I have been thinking neuropathy too.
Still if it's just one sided , a MRI BRAIN should be considered to rule out multiple strokes.
Best of luck. Dr Mittal.

Dr. Mittal,

I had a CT scan of my brain about 9-10 months ago and they said everything looked good. When my head hurts or get tingling of any kind it's always on both sides. If it's neuropathy and my nerves are being damaged what are some suggestions? Watch my sugar intake or try to drop some weight? I'm 6'1" and 237lbs.
XXXXXXX

Also, I was in ER a number of times last year and they discovered I was being chronically poisoned by carbon monoxide from my car after running tests. Not sure if it could be related to the monoxide poisoning yet?

Brief Answer:
Suggestions

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I will answer your specific question.
1st a 9 month old ct cannot diagnose a 5 month old problem. Besides MRI BRAIN is a better study.
2nd carbon monoxide poisoning can be a cause of neuropathy.
3rd I would suggest a nerve biopsy to know the exact cause. meanwhile, a prescription for pregabalin may be useful.
Both, reduced sugar intake and weight loss will help. But the damage done cannot be repaired.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal
