What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation At The Tip Of Nose Post Dental Filling?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: Hello. I had a filling replaced yesterday morning, between two back upper molars on the left side. After the numbness wore off I felt irritation at the injection site for several hours. This morning that irritation is 99.9% gone; however, I am now experiencing a tingling sensation, and perhaps a bit of a numb sensation, on the tip of my nose. This is irritating and won't seem to go away. Might I have nerve damage of some sort from the filling procedure?

During the filling procedure, one of the tools used caused an extreme vibration of my head and face. Not sure if this is part of the cause or not.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It is normal. There are no medical concerns to bother.

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

It is all normal. Filling can not damage the nerves. When we go deeper e.g for root canal, or tooth extraction especially molars and wisdom tooth, it sometimes may cause nerve injury.

The instrumental shaking and feeling hot on teeth is all normal with dental procedures.

You need to take proper rest and medications which are post procedural ones given to you by the dentist.

Avoid very extreme temperature meals or liquids. Massage your nose many a times a day. Apply hot paddings on nose. It will decrease numbness soon due to increased blood supply and flushing.

It takes some days to a week perhaps in recovery in such cases. Don't worry at all.

Hope I answered your concerns. If you have further questions, feel free to contact me anytime. If satisfied, please give a five Star rating and don't forget to Close the discussion.

Have a wonderful time ahead.

Best Regards!
