What Causes Negative Pregnancy Test With Abdominal Bloating, Pain And Frequent Urination?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Dec 2015
Question: Hi there,

I had a tubal ligation over 1 year ago. I have all of the symptoms of pregnancy except this time I feel a lot of bloating in my abdomen and I am urinating frequently. My right ovary has pain, and I feel really tired all the time. I am showing up negative when I took a digital pregnancy test. My period isn't due for another week and a half, so the test is showing a negative because it is too soon to test anyway. Anyway, the bloating got even worse last night. My stomach is really distended and I am getting worried. I feel really tired and off.

Brief Answer:
Pseudocyesis or an actual problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of tubal ligation over one year and getting distention of the abdomen with pain in the right ovary region and frequency of urination; feeling tired all the time. Period is not due for another week and half so the test is showing negative. Have all the symptoms of pregnancy except that the bloating is more and with pain as explained.

There are two possibilities:
1. Pseudocyesis, is a condition is which there is no actual pregnancy but one gets all the symptoms. This is confirmed by a negative ultrasonography. The patient who has the extreme desire of having Motherhood again develops this sort of a problem. No one really knows the reason and the exact mechanism by which this happens. Consult your XXXXXXX Gynecologist who has seen such more cases for counselling and further management.
2. There may be an actual problem like a cyst in the right ovary, Pelvic inflammatory disease, intestinal obstruction or enteritis.
This can be diagnosed by a clinical evaluation, examination and investigations like X-ray of the abdomen in standing position, ultrasonography and so on.
Please consult your Doctor to get all these things done to get the correct diagnosis and proper treatment if needed.

I hope this answers your query.
