Posted on Mon, 22 Sep 2014
Question: Hi Dr. My name is XXXXXXX XXXX. To give you a bit about myself, I am a 42 year old male, 6ft tall, never done a drug in my life, never smoke, never drink. I eat super healthy and work out 5 days a week. For the last few weeks, I have been having nausea and mild diarrhea intermittently. However for the last week and a half I have had the nausea daily. I am not throwing up, however. It gets worse if I eat something spicy or greasy. So I have been eating really bland foods. No fever, no flu, no other symptoms. And in-between the nausea, i do get hungry so my appetite is good....Can you help?

Brief Answer:
Cholecyst and/or stomach problems to rule out...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Your symptoms are indicative for possible:
- cholecyst problems
- stomach issues

Therefore, further investigations are needed to determine the right diagnosis:
- abdominal ultrasound
- upper endoscopy
- complete blood work
- liver function tests

Depending on the tests results, specific treatment will be prescribed. For the moment, I advise to:
- avoid oily/spicy foods
- eat often and small portions
- increase water intake
- take OTC ranitidine and antacids

Wish fast recovery!

Doc,

Any chance this could be bug or a an beginning of an ulcer? How about stomach cancer. Sorry I am asking but I am a worry wart. The funny thing is my tummy does not hurt.

Brief Answer:
Insist to run investigations first...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

No chance for stomach bug as you have been on these symptoms for several weeks now.

I cannot determine if it is ulcer, gastritis, reflux until I will have the tests results as mentioned earlier. I need to get them and analyze for further evaluation.

It is great that your tummy is not hurting. But, I still insist to have the examinations done to determine the right diagnosis and get the right treatment in time.

Wish fast recovery!

Thank you Doctor! But you don't think it would be stomach cancer or anything serious from the sounds of it? Again, just a worried patient.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Do not get worried unnecessarily...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back XXXXXXX

Your symptoms are not indicative for cancer to my opinion as long as your appetite is the same and you do not report sudden, un-explained weight loss. Do not worry un-necessarily.

However, I still insist to run the examinations as mentioned earlier.

Once again, do not get worried unnecessarily. Get examined first, then, we'll see!
