What Causes Muscle Pain In Shoulder And Neck?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Apr 2014
Question: I have really intense muscle pain in my right shoulder and neck. It has been constant for about four days now. It radiates up into my head and down into my arm. It originates about halfway between the end of my neck and the end of my shoulder. No injury or trauma but what is really strange, I had the exact same pain on my left side that dissipated about a week ago. I was fine for a few days but then the pain literally moved to the right side. I am in so much pain it is hard to function but no other symptoms. When the neck pain first started on the left side I actually went to the ER because I had been diagnosed with step throat a week prior. When i was diagnosed, I started on amox at first but then my primary doctor switched me to the z pack. They did a bunch of blood work and decided that I had acquired a virus after the strep which was the reason for the neck pain. They gave me a muscle relaxer but it honestly hasn't helped and made me too tired. I just don't know what to do at this point and will probably call my doctor tomorrow but it is just so weird that I had the same pain on the left side and then it seems it decided to move to the right for no reason. I am allergic to ibuprofen but can pretty much take anything else. I have been taking acetaminophen but it just isn't cutting it. I guess I was hoping for some recommendation to manage the pain and maybe some advice as to the cause. Could a virus live in your muscle and move around like that?

Brief Answer: Get x-ray done. Detailed Answer: Hi, I have read your query. A virus in muscle could not move like you are explaining. I think you first get your x-ray cervical spine done in AP and Lateral view and then discuss it with your doctor, who will do your physical examination and act accordingly simply taking antibiotics and painkillers will not help you. X-ray picture will tell about vertebral and disc condition of neck. You can take tab. aceclofenac+thiocolchicoside by discussing with your doctor. Apply hot packs for 30 min in morning and evening . I hope it helps. You are welcome to ask further health related queries. If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer 5 points for me, so that I get a good feedback.
