What Causes Missed Periods?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Question: Hi,
So I have been on Lo loestrin Fe for 3+ years now. I don't ever bleed on the placebo pills but always for 5 days of my active week 2. That can't be normal. I have been extremely good about taking it. I take between 9-12 everyday and now this past month I have been bumping it up to between 7-730 because I have started coaching cross country. I run 4-5 miles a day hard. I've never missed a period except when I was running hard about 2 years ago, I switched BC because it was scaring me. After a long time boyfriend and I broke up I switched back since I was no longer sexually active. I will not be sexually active from today on until I'm married to avoid accidents like this one: Last month, a week before my "period" was due, I had sex twice without a condom, but they didn't finish. Also I have never missed a pill in my 2+ years of taking it. I was nervous but I go my period, well what I thought was my period. Now this month I am 3 days late and freaking out. I only had sex once but it was with a condom, didn't finish, and perfect BC use. I haven't taken an hpt yet because I am too nervous.

Brief Answer:
Serum beta hCG blood test

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. You are unlikely to be pregnant.

2. The reasin for missing periods is because of your physical exertion of cross country run. Because periods do vary when there is charged physical activity pattern.

3. You can wait for a week by which time you will get your cycles.

4. If you are nervous and wish to confirm pregnancy accurately get serum beta hCG blood test done to allay your fears even if hpt is negative.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
