Question: I have been experiencing very mild throbbing discomfort in front lower right chin area for a few weeks. There are no other symptoms...e.g., swelling, etc. It is controlled with 200 mg ibuprofen every 9-12 hours. I am 68 and have no health issues....cholesterol controlled with statins. What might it be??

Tooth/Gum infection, treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Thanks for consulting Healthcare magic .
This is Dr. Priyanka Tiwari answering your query .

I have read your query and understand your concern . As far as mild throbbing discomfort in front lower chin area is concerned. I have two possibilites : It can be because of tooth or gum infection (carious tooth or gingivitis) . The other possible cause can be Attrition /Abrasion (slight wearing of incisal /cervical surface of front tooth) .

Can you upload image of teeth and gum in lower right chin area that will be more helpful for me to arrive at conclusion and give you proper diagnosis ? You have feature to upload image by yourself on the right side of query page please utilize it . Alternatively , you can mail the image to YYYY@YYYY with the subject line as 'Attention to Dr. Priyanka Tiwari'.

Based on detail provided I will suggest you to do warm saline rinses 2 to 3 times a day and you can apply ointment like gum paint on gum . For pain you can take analgesic like Diclomol SP by consulting with local doctor . If pain is severe and trobuling you i will recommend you to visit oral surgeon for clinical examination and investigations IOPA Xray of lower right chin region . If radiograph reveals there is any tooth / gum infection or wasting disease like Attrition/Abrasion then it has to be treated with Root canal treatment or scaling .

Awating for picture to comment further .

Hope I have answered your quey .
If you have further query I will be happy to help.
