What Causes Menstrual Irregularities?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Aug 2016
Question: Hi,

I have been married for 4 months. I am experiencing irregular periods. I just have one after 2.4 months. I have regular sex with my husband, yet have not conceived. I am unaware of the reasons.

I have visited a doctor 20 days back who asked for Thyroid test. The TSH is 6.08. The report is attached.

I was advised Norethisterone Tablets (Promolup-N) for 5 days and Throxin sodium tablets 25 mcg to be taken regularly.

Recently, from my second day of periods, i have been advised Fertomid-50 for 5 days. 2 days tablets left.

Please suggest.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
the treatment is fine

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Welcome to HCM,

The treatment given to you is correct and will help you conceive.
The TSH hormone should ideally be less than 2.5 miu/ L in women trying to conceive, the throxin will help achieve that.

The fertomid will help with getting pregnant by helping in egg formation.

Do take folic acid also.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

What can be the possible reasons for not conceiving, in my case.

I am married for 4 months only. I went to doctor primarily with irregular periods problem. Can i conceive naturally i.e. without pills ?

Also, are there any sideaffects of my medication.

Brief Answer:
yes you could wait for upto a year

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

Trying for just 4 months is too short a period. So you would technically not fit into the definition of infertile.

But since you are having irregular cycles you may need help to conceive

Another option for you would be to wait for your thyroid to get normal.
And just try for one year without any medications, if you do not mind waiting and trying for that long and want to avoid medications.

But you definitely need to take the thyroid tablets till your TSH is below 2.5 levels. Also take folic acid , which are just vitamins to help baby brain development.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much. This is helpful.

I have taken 3 out of 5 medication of Fertomid-50. Can i quit it right away ?

I will continue to take the Thyroid tablets and the folic acid tablets, as suggested. (Please suggest dose for folic acid).

But, how should i go about regularizing my periods which i think will help me conceive naturally.

Thanks a lot.

Brief Answer:
finish the course this time as already taken 3

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Welcome to HCM,

Since you have started the pack its best that you finish it now, but do not take it next month.

You can plan intercourse between 8 to 18 days of the period this month to improve chances of conceiving.

Has your doctor called you for ultrasound to monitoor the growth of the follicile in this cycle? If she has then please go for it as you have already taken 3 tablets.

To regularize your period, and increase chances of conceiving, continue the thyroid and folic acid.

Please tell me your height and weight? any family history of diabetes?
Any ultrasound done till now?
Hope this helps.
Regards.
