What Causes Lower Blood Pressure Values?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Apr 2015
Question: I have been taking HBP medecine for the last 7 years and the readings are all have been a little above normal - in the morning, and as the day goes , the readings get higher. Stress, work, etc... now I had a stomach virus last Monday and had some vomiting, nothing excessive, but this caused me some vertigo - dis- orientation, couldn't walk straight, so I took some Travel pills, ( mezcline- 15 mg) and this fixed the problem - don't know if the strong heaving action - caused the vertigo symptoms. But now - 3 days later, my BP readings are 20 points below on both readings - and my pulse is also 20 points below - the average morning readings. Also, yesterday, the midday readings were 20 points lower, and thus I DIDN'T TAKE THE DAILY HBP MEDICINE - and this morning, it is very Normal again.
What is going on ?

Brief Answer:
Your abnormal BP values will be transient.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern I would explain that the lower blood pressure values may have been the result of relative hypovolemia (triggered by repeated vomiting and viral infection) and also the effect of Meclizine (it is a central nervous system depressant and also has dopamine antagonism properties). So, don't worry about your unusual BP values; reduce temporarily for a couple of days the daily doses of anti-hypertensive drugs and take abundant quantity of liquids. When on Meclizine treatment avoid driving or other dangerous machines use.

Hope to have been helpful to you! Feel free to ask me whenever you need! Greetings! Dr. Iliri
