What Causes Low Libido After Starting Viorele Birth Control Pills?

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Jul 2015
Question: Hello, I am 27 was not using birth control for many years, always using condoms or pull out method. I always had a strong sex drive and would get very "wet" before and during intercourse. About 3 months ago, I got pregnant by my long term boyfriend and we decided I would have a (medicated) abortion. I started the birth control pill viorele following the abortion. Now it's been 2 months and my sex drive is almost gone, and I no longer get "wet" at all anymore, and can't orgasm. I have an appointment to see my gyno in 1 week but I was hoping to get some peace of mind with an answer today or options I could try. Is there anything I can do to make sex more pleasurable (natural remedies, or creams, or ???) Please help! Thank you for your time!

Brief Answer:
Explained.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
After an abortion, it is normal to have altered hormonal milieu for a few weeks to a few months.
Give your body sometime to recuperate.
It is also possible that you are reacting to the birth control.
Many women experience a loss of libido after starting birth control, although there is no conclusive verdict on that.
Also, you can try lubricants like KY jelly, that might make sex more pleasurable.
Foreplay and a good rapport with your partner is essential.
There are no proven natural remedies either that can be taken to enhance your libido, there is an endless variety of products that ' claim ' to boost your sex drive, but other than actual supplementation with hormones ( estrogen ), science again backs none of them.
Please have an internal evaluation and hormonal level assay.
If everything is normal, try stopping the birth control.
If that too does not work, you can try local estrogen creams / gels - those are proven to work in women with hormonal imbalance.
BUt at 27, you should not be needing that.
All the best
