Question: My husband has no appetite. He's lost 60 pounds since March of this year. He has one kidney. At night he sometimes gets fever and chills with sweating. He gets about one to two hours sleep every night. He has sharp abdomen and groin pain and back pain in lower back. He is extremely fatigued has shortness of breath, can't walk far at all, gets swollen ankles by end of day, and gets an itchy rash on chest neck and lags. He had a kidney removed that was cancerous but as far as we know it has not spread. He was told he has epstein barr virus. He is worried he might have some other kind of cancer. What are your thoughts? Two nights ago he was so sick, he did vomit his dinner up. He had a double anyerism repair in stomach that was repaired in 2012 november and we think it was possible that a nerve was nicked because his one testicles is extremely painful. (clear renal)kidney cancer. also has constapation and gas and burping. has gerd and takes prilosec has chest pain also.

Brief Answer:
blood and urine culture

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Since your husband is getting fever and chills with sweating i would advise him to do blood and urine culture test to find the cause of fever.

As he also has a history of kidney removal that was cancerous i would suggest he does a a positron emission tomography (PET) scan as sometimes kidney cancer can recurr.

If any space occupying lesion is found in the scan then biopsy has to be done to rule out malignancy.

For gas and burping he can take proton pump inhibitors group of drugs before food.

To prevent constipation he needs to take high fibre diet and syrup Lactulose 15 ml at night.

he had his blood and urine checked I forgot about that and it came back clear. So it looks like a Pet Scan is in order. Thank You so much, Melody I know a lot of times weight loss is due to cancer...hmmm...
