default
Posted on Mon, 3 Aug 2015
Question: Hi, I have had loose stools, gas and frequency for over a week now. Also a mucosy wormy substance by stool....it is causing fatigue; bloated and gassy too. I got checked for c diff and some parasites and results were clear.

Brief Answer:
Have there been any changes in your diet?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. They really point to a digestive upset but do not suggest a specific disease condition. For now, I will like to know if there have been any changes in your diet. Being cleared of c diff and parasites alongside a normal recent colonoscopy means these symptoms are most likely not cause by a diseased organ.

For how long have you had them? Symptoms of this nature often raise the suspicion of irritable bowel syndrome. However, these must have been going on for a while. Also, do you feel better when you defecate? Has anything changed with your diet?
Please, help me with responses to the above questions so that I can factor them in before making recommendations on how to treat this problem.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Thankyou! I have had these symptoms for about 8 days.... I had been on a gluten free diet since I felt better on this and may have eaten some wheat or flour. I tended toward constipation before this. I am mostly upset by gas and frequency of BM with loose to very loose to just a mucous stool. I was on turmeric and this made things orange? I am not sure if I should lean toward high or low fiber and IBS is a good guess unless pinworms could be creating the problem.... I did eat smoked fresh caught lake salmon and wonder if the fish triggered this.... Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Difficult to pinpoint the exact cause now!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for this precise information. If something changed in your diet, it could be the trigger but then it is difficult to tell. For now, I will like that we address the worry of frequent and loose stools. I will recommend you take loperamide for this. It is available over the counter.

For fiber, increase the fiber content of your diet. This is the best approach. I hope that these two measures will help address the symptoms. Keep me updated with your progress.

Until next, I wish you well and a speedy recovery.
