Question: Hi! I attached a ct scan of my brain.. plus an xray of my skull. Wondering what each one means.. in a way that it easier for me to understand. Also based on both.. what it could be. Basically.. could it be anything serious via reports that I need to follow up asap?!

Brief Answer:
Not a serious concern, please upload CT scan images and X ray if possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
After having read through your Skull X ray and CT scan brain reports, I find that the Skull X ray mentions the possibility of a small 1.1 cm bony prominence at the back of the head, which is felt (described as palpable area).

On the CT scan however, there is no mention of anything to do with the bone. The CT scan says that your brain is showing changes which are expected at an older age. The CT scan does not mention any comment about the prominent bony structure seen on Skull X ray. It might be that on CT it was confirmed that the bony area was a normal structure.

It will help if you can please upload all your CT scan images and Skull X ray for my better understanding and this will help me to give you an accurate opinion.

The CT scan however says that you should discuss all your symptoms in detail with your doctors.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Hi! I went to ER yesterday due to feeling light headed , pressure in my ear. Bloodwork came back and it showed my liver enzymes high. The ER Dr. didn't treat me for it. I am concerned why it is so high & if it could be from taking pain killer medication recently for headache/pressure from bump on my head. I also take anti depressants & anxiey med. I don't drink alcohol. I notice I have slight tenderness in my right abdomen. also due for me menstrual any day.. I figured the tenderness was from that. worried now because of the high liver enzymes. attached is bloodwork.

Brief Answer:
Mildly elevated liver enzymes is not a serious problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

The liver enzyme levels are only mildly elevated in you and this is most likely temporary. Most of the time, mildly elevated liver enzymes don't signal a chronic, serious liver problem.

Taking medications for pain, anxiety and anti depressants can cause liver enzymes to be mildly high. It can also be raised under stress.

In the absence of physical symptoms of liver disease, there is no requirement to treat it immediately. You can get the tests repeated after 3 months to see if they are back to normal values.

The tenderness in right abdomen if slight, can be observed till you have your menstrual periods. To me it looks like you might be referring to bloating of abdomen associated with menstrual periods. However, should you have persisting tenderness that is worsening and fever then it should not be ignored and an ultrasound scan of abdomen might help in diagnosing any conditions in the liver or surrounding areas.

Hope your query is answered.

thank you, Dr. Vivek!

you're the most detailed Dr. I have wrote to so far that knows exactly what to say with the brief info I have given. Appreciate your expertise!
I was also told via my bloodwork, my thyroid is over active. ER Dr. did tell me to see an Endo Dr.

From the dizziness/headache I have had nausea & threw up a few times.. could that also cause my abdomen to feel tender? Ever since I noticed the boney bump on my scalp, I have been feeling very stressed & I know most of the symptoms are being brought on by the stress.

I had my gallbladder removed in XXXXXXX Hope my liver is not be affected more bc of it.

Please find detailed answer below.

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

Welcome and thanks for acknowledging my reply.

An overactive thyroid can cause increased stress related anxiety levels. If your blood investgations show an overactive thyroid function then consulting an endocrinologist and taking medications to suppress the thyroid overactivity might help in reducing your anxiety symptoms.

Concerning the bump on your head, it is normal for any person (including me) to lose sleep over it unless it is assured that the bump does not have any serious consequences. As I have gone through your X ray and CT scan reports, I can say with some certainty that the bump is a completely benign condition but it is wise to keep a check over any increase in size over the next 6 months or year.

Dizziness, headache and nausea are very subjective symptoms and can be brought about by many factors like anxiety, stress and in young females particularly, due to migraine and pre menstrual reasons. Throwing up repeatedly can cause violent contraction of abdominal wall muscles leading to slight pain in the regions. It is important to carefully understand the situations precipitating your dizziness, headache and nausea and discussing it with your doctors.

Recent gall bladder surgery can cause temporary obstructions to bile drainage but since your bilirubin levels are normal, this is not a concern. Slightly elevated liver enzymes are expected immediately after gall bladder surgery and resolves in a week after the operation. Your liver functions are not related to gall bladder surgery as per current reports.

Hope your query is answered.
