What Causes Large Welts On Body While Treating Lyme Disease And DLE?

Posted on Tue, 29 Sep 2015
Question: my dermatologist and rheumatologist at MGH have prescribed 40mg Prednisone daily, for two weeks..with a tapering off to 10mg before I'm off it completely..for Lymes and Discoid Lupus..I sustained a severe cut in my hand, requiring 12 stitches... only 24 hours later, my scalp, neck, face, ears, upper chest and shoulders broke out in large welts..much, much worse than the usual rash and welts I've been used to..they explained that this could be the "koebner phenomenon" and felt Prednisone is the way to go..but, I am like a crazy rat in a cage..I don't worry that I don't sleep..nothing new..I read, I write..but, even though I lift weights daily, I want to amp that up, and feeling like I am, to lift at night, when I can't sleep..is that ok?

Brief Answer:
If your hand lesion is not hurting,it is totally ok to go with your routine

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you to my virtual clinic HCM!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

I feel sorry for the situation you have. I want to assure you that there is no harm in going with your routine until unless your hand lesion is not hurting and there is no hindrance from that side. You may go for whatever you want to do. Neither your disease, nor any medications hinder you from doing what you desire to.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you in no time. If satisfied here, please give a generous five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up after sometime regarding the treatment efficacy and to see any need to change the treatment options is very necessary. Keep a follow up some days after this visit session ends.
