What Causes Lack Of Growth Of Penis In Child?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Sep 2015
Question: I took my 11 year old son to an endocrinologist because I was concerned about his penis size. It has not changed in size since he was a baby. The doctor is recommending testosterone injections 1 each month for 3 months. I am so conflicted and unsure what I should do. I have been trying to research this and it seems that all the doctors say you can not change your penis size. Yet this doctor told me it can help a little bit these injections. What is your expertise and can testosterone injections hurt my 11 year old son? Is testosterone injections done in a boy prior to puberty different then giving it to a post pubescent male? Please inform me- I am a concerned parent.
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
It is useful if used for right indication.

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
It is not clear what was the indication for testsoterone injection. I presume it is for micropenis . Testosterone injection is prescribed in small dose ( usually 50 mg once a month for 3 months) to kick start puberty in delayed puberty and in constituional delay in puberty and growth ( CDGP). It is also prescribed to increase penile length in children with micropenis ( small penile length for the age).

Usually this small course of testosterone injections help to increase the penis length. There are no long term side effects from this if used for correct indication.

Binu
