Brief Answer: Can be a soft tissue injury. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for posting your query. The mild discomfort and pain on climbing the stairs that you are feeling is likely to be due to a mild soft tissue injury of the internal structures of the knee joint or an inflammation of the knee joint ligaments. At your young age, the pain in the knee is more likely to be due to stress related minor capsular inflammation or an injury. You can help the improvement by- 1. Avoid any strenuous knee exercises, lifting weights, climbing stairs, cycling, etc. 2. Take a mild pain killer like acetaminophen every 8 hourly. 3. Do a hot fomentation in the area twice daily. 4. You can apply a local analgesic gel like Volini also. 5. Use an elastic knee brace for better knee support while walking. Do consult an Orthopedician for a physical examination and stronger prescription medicines in case there is swelling, persistent pain and difficulty in walking. An MRI scan will then help in proper diagnosis and management. I hope this answers your query. Brief Answer: Use an elastic knee brace. Detailed Answer: Hello. Thanks for writing again. If there is no swelling then the inflammation is only mild. This can be taken care of with anti inflammatory drugs and rest for 3 weeks. You can use an elastic knee brace for relief. You can continue with marathon and jogging only if it is very essential. Lack of adequate rest can delay the healing and can cause a swelling to appear. Hope my answer is helpful. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish you good health. Regards
