What Causes Knee Pain?

Question: Just in the last several days when I get up from a seating position the top of my knees hurt. I mean not righT on top but when sitting where the top of your thigh meets your kneecap. They also have been aching a bit when I am sedantary. I am 65 years old and wonder what I might do to strengthen my muscles around my knees and if what I am feeling is arthritus

As per your history it can be patello - femoral osteoarthritis.
You may need x ray of your knee to see details of joint.
You can start cartilage protecting medication like chondritin sulphate.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and Tens may give you a great relief.
Exercises like static quadriceps and knee range of motion exercises will help.
