What Causes Itcing In Inner Upper Thigh?

default
Posted on Wed, 13 Aug 2014
Question: Hi,

I am a guy, 28 years old. I felt itchy skin in my left inner upper thigh close to pubic area. After three days now, it is still itchy, and when I checked the skin, it is coming off and it is red! I have had safe sex only.
I don't know if it is just a skin rash, or a should I go to a urologist, or dermatologist, or get tested for std! I am very busy, and I have a flight on Thursday, so I need to take care of this ASAP.

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr. XXXXXXX
Thanks for posting your concern in the HCM.
I can understand your busy schedule and I can assure you that there is not of much concern in your case.

Firstly, I think you have got a superficial fungal infection of the groin. Any superficial bacterial infection should also be ruled out. Venereal or sexually transmitted infection may also be excluded.

Hence, my recommendations are-
1. Please Dry the crural or thigh folds completely after bathing and use separate towels for drying the groin and other parts of the body.
2. Please put on the socks before your undershorts to decrease the chance of direct contamination.
3. Please change your undershorts daily and try to keep your groin dry and clean.
4. I usually prescribe my patients 1% Clotrimazole cream for local application in the groin area twice daily and tell them to report after 7 days.
5. Oral antifungal medications may also be required depending upon clinical examination.
6. You should also consult a specialist in D & VD (i.e. Dermatology & Venereal Diseases) for further evaluation and to rule out any bacterial infection or any venereal disease.

Hope you are satisfied with my answer. If you think I have satisfactorily resolved your query, please rate my answer. If you have any further query related to this, please write back.
