What Causes Itching Sensation All Over The Body?

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Jun 2016
Question: Hello Doctor,
I'm facing an Allergy problme since last 2-3 yrs. now. Sudden itching starts in almost all parts of my body, specifically in head, hand and toe fingers, private parts, stomach and in my legs.
The affected portions got reddish .Sometime some whitish material is seen on my body parts post I rub myself to get relief from itching.

I had met a Dermatologist and he recommended me to undergo certain tests which include LFT,KFT,Lipid Profile, Blood sugar Tests as well some other tests. The reports of same seems normal.

Further he asked me to visit a Liver Specialist and further Liver Specialist also recommended me certain Kidney related tests to confirm if their any allergy related from any liver diseases.
All above tests seems in normal limits and had also undertaken medicine courses both from Dermatologist as well from Liver Specialist.

Till the time I undertake medicines my allergy remains in control, But moment I stopped taking any medicine ,same allergy re-occurs in my body.

After almost visiting for above doctors for almost 2-3 months I stopped visiting anymore as there was no permanent recovery seen.
Till last 1-1.5 yrs now I had been taking LECOPE medicine after a routine cycle of 2 days as otherwise the allergy causes such high itching in my body, that even I feel less of breath sometimes and need to take immediate LECOPE medicine which takes almost 2-3 hrs to control the itching.

I'm now confused as to meet whom as I had met a known Dermatologist/Liver Specialist of a reputed Hospital in NCR, but still my problem is not resolved.

I keep very good care of self hygiene and other necessary things so as to prevent allergy/itching due to any wrong environment.
Now I had observed one more thing that incase I touch any dusty material or stays in any dirty place barefoot or in that environment, issues starts again in my body.

Due to my work profile, I sometimes needs to sit continuously for 24 hrs. and even in nights after working full day, I feel acute itching now in my hands in case I work in such extended durations.

Kindly let me know as what I can do to find the source of allergy as well as how can I kill this disease permanently.

Brief Answer:
Consult allergist and get done allergy testing.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the detailed history you have provided.
In my opinion, you are mostly having urticaria. It is type of allergic skin disease.
In my opinion, you should consult allergist and get done clinical examination and allergy testing.
By this, you can identify the causative allergens in you.
So that you cannot avoid them.
Another important thing is better to take combination of levocetrizine (anti histamine) and montelukast (anti allergic), rather than taking plain lecope (levocetrizine).
Please let me know
1. Have you ever undergone allergy testing?
2. Did you have any of these symptoms in childhood?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Kindly let me know which medicine should I take apart from LECOPE.

1. Have you ever undergone allergy testing?
No
2. Did you have any of these symptoms in childhood?
In my childhood, I have itching problem only in my private parts, but use general skin ointments such as ITCH GUARD,FORDERM creams and visited general physicians as well.

Kindly let me know any good Alergist details.
Also I read there are various types of Allergy tests perfrormed such as Composite Allergy test, skin patch testings.

So kindly guide me,which allergy test should I undergo and do I need to visit an Allergist before or directly get my Allergy test performed from any Laboratory.

Brief Answer:
Get done blood tests for allergy like serum IgE and eosinophil count.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Allergy tests include blood testing and skin testing.
In blood testing there are two kind of tests.
1. Direct allergy testing
2. Indirect allergy testing like eosinophil count, serum IgE level etc.
So first get done these eosinophil count and serum IgE level.
Better to consult allergist first and get done clinical examination. Skin allergy testing is more accurate than blood testing. And skin tests done by allergist only.
Instead of lecope (levocetrizine) , you should start lecope M (levocetrizine and Montelukast).
Can you send me images of your skin lesions?
Is any of your family member is having allergy?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Hello Doctor,
My weight is around 85 kgs.
I intake LECOPE 5mg.

One more query: Is an Allergist and Dermatologist is purely a separate deptt.
What do u think my problem is purely related to some kind of Allergy or some skin disorder.

Any preventions I can take till time I see an Alergist.
Is taking LECOPE for so long will have any negative impact on my body or introduce any adverse impacts on any other vital organs.
I mean is it safe to consume Levocitrizine salt for such long duration.

Brief Answer:
On long-term use, levocetrizine looses it's effectiveness.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In early days, dermatologist practice as allergist.
But now a days due to advances in the field of allergy testing and treatment, separate branch of allergy medicine has been developed.
Doctors who are practicing exclusive allergy known as allergist.
Since it is related to dermatology, many dermatologist also practice as allergist.
Hope, I have cleared my point.
Levocetrizine is antihistamine drug. With chronic use, it's effectiveness may reduce. No need to worry for major side effects with this drug.
Fexofenadine is much better and safer molecule as compare to levocetrizine.
So please let me know
1. Do you feel drowsiness after taking levocetrizine?
2. Do you feel any change in effectiveness of levocetrizine over the time?
3. Please let me know exactly where do you live, so that that I can guide you about allergist.
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Hi,
1. Do you feel drowsiness after taking levocetrizine?
No, I don't feel drowsiness in case I took it in daytime, yes but incase I took it in night hours before sleep yes I got an extended sleep then my normal sleep.

2. Do you feel any change in effectiveness of levocetrizine over the time?
Yes initially I use to take it after 3-4 days but now the cycle is reduced to 2 days and some time though very rare even I need to take it everyday as well in case any chronic attacks.

3. Please let me know exactly where do you live, so that that I can guide you about allergist.
I'am based in XXXXXXX NCR .
Initially I had got myself checked in SIR XXXXXXX XXXXXXX HOSPITAL in 2014.

Is these tests are costly and kindly clarify which test should I opt for, normal blood test or skin patch testing.
Is there any order kind of skin allergy test available also ?

Brief Answer:
Better to consult in XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Better to change the drug. Start combination of fexofenadine and montelukast.
Best is to take once daily for 8-10 months and then gradually taper down.
And for allergy, better to consult either in XXXXXXX or Medanta Medicity.
Both are having excellent allergy testing and treatment facility.
Better to first consult allergist and then he well guide you more about type of allergy testing.
Skin allergy testing are better than blood tests.
They are not much expensive.
In XXXXXXX they cost 4000 to 5000 rupees. Again, charges depends on number one allergens tested.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
