Posted on Thu, 26 May 2016
Question: Hi, I just injured my wrist Feb 15th (5 weeks ago) I went into the emergency room where I was diagnosed with a broken wrist and then refffered to a urologist which I went to and had to pay out of pocket for. I thought I needed a cast on it but he said since it's been so long that it doesn't need a cast since it's already started healing. they put a splint on it? I think k it's called and told me to keep it on for another couple weeks. but the thing is that it has started to itch is that normal ? and also once I remove the brace how soon after should I resume activities ? are there any exercises I should start doing once I take it off to improve movabiltity? also I was prescribed anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen ) how long should I cont taking that for?

Brief Answer:
Itching is a common finding and is harmless.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A mild itch while using a brace or a splint is a normal finding. This can happen due to dryness of the skin also.
After removing the brace you will have to start with few physiotherapy exercise to regain the mobility of the wrist joint. You can start with your routine activities after a week. Ibuprofen is given to reduce the pain and swelling. In case the pain and swelling has reduced then you can stop taking it.
I hope this answers your query.
