What Causes Itching In Groin Area?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Nov 2015
Question: Hi, I'm 18 years old and I've had an itching feeling in the creases between my thighs and my vaginal area. When I scratch it, it then becomes red and irritated and moist and burns when I touch it again and it has a tendency to bleed a little. Once I leave it alone for a few days, it then forms a flaky white thin crust on top of the damaged area. I'm really freaking out and I desperately need an answer!! At first I thought it was just my eczema, but I'm not sure anymore. Please help me???

Oral and topical antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thank you for posting on HCM.
I can understand your concern regarding the skin condition.
From the description, it seems you are having Intertrigo.
Intertrigo is an infection over opposing body areas like groin, underarms etc where there is continous friction and perspiration.
In such cases, I advise a week long course of oral erythromycin and oral Fluconazole. I also advise application of antifungal amd antibacterial cream twice a day over affected areas ( clotrimazole and mupirocin) for 7-10 days.
Maintain hygiene over the affected area by using triclosan based soap.
Avoid tight undergarments.
I am sure you will be fine soon enough with the above regimen.
Let me know if you require any more assistance from my side.

Thank you and take care
