Question: I have been having strong itching in my lower calfs, above the ankle. The skin now is thinner on the legs,
below the knee and just recently I have noticed my body bruising very easily. My skin tore when I lost my balance getting into a large SUV and tore the skin off my leg on an area about 1.5"x3". Bruises take a long time to disappear.

Brief Answer:
To rule out vitamin C deficiency

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Excessive itching above the ankle associated with thinning of the skin, possibility of Varicose veins needs to be considered. Possibility is very likely if there is associated hyperpigmentation at the site.
Easy bruisability and delayed healing also needs further evaluation. Vitamin C deficiency needs to be specifically ruled out.

I would suggest the following
1. Detailed examination from your physician to rule out varicose veins(dilated veins of lower limb ) or other skin disease
2. Blood coagulation profile.
3. Color doppler of lower limb.

In the meantime you could try this which will be beneficial

1. Local application of aloe vera based moisturizing cream or Liquid paraffin application will help relieve itching. Calamine lotion will also be beneficial
2. Avoid standing for prolonged time.
3. Antihistaminic like Hydroxyzine will be helpful for itching
4. Multi-vitamin and Vitamin C oral supplement

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
