What Causes Itchiness And Pins And Needles In Head, Face And Ears?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: I have a strange sensation I can only describe as itching and pins and needles. It is most prevalent on my head, face, ears and neck. It gives a sensation similar to the feeling of something on your face when you walk through a spider web. Therefore, I constantly feel like I need to wipe somthing off of my face and/or scratch. I also have the sensation sporadically on other parts of my body but it is by far the most prevalent on my head, face, ears and neck. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Vitamin b12 deficiency should be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to vitamin b12 deficiency. Checking vitamin b12 level in blood will be helpful. If it is below 500 then taking vitamin b12 supplements will be helpful. Calcium and vitamin D3 level also should be checked.

For my patients with such condition I would recommend vitamin b12 injections for 1 week followed by oral tablets.

If there is no improvement then a neurological evaluation should be done.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
