Question: My left thumb has been involuntarily twitching for 3 days now, what could be the cause?

I undertake moderate exercise for 5 days a week. It also includes moderate weight lifting of 5-10 kilos(dumbbells). Nil Alcohol consumption and no smoking habit. Sleep pattern: 6-7 hours of sleep daily, no known allergies. Nature of work, desk job.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are suggestive of benign fasciculations.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted your symptoms and they are most likely due to benign fasciculations. These are not serious, and would improve on own.

Weight lifting and exercises can exacerbate these symptoms.

You should get better with giving rest to the hand/thumb and ensuring 7-8 hours of sleep.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
