What Causes Involuntary Muscle Twitching In The Body?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 May 2017
Question: I am having involuntary muscle jerking. I wake up at night, startled as if I am falling due to my muscles jerking. It is my arms, legs, even inside my abdomen. I did have a mass removed(partially) from between my brain and spinal cord. It was entangled at the area where the nerves come together and go into the spinal cord. I had occipital neuralgia, headaches, and high pitched ringing in my ears. Now, my head itches a lot, my face, neck and my groin itches. I can't decide if this is from the mass again or if it is possibly a side effect of medication. I take Cymbalta, Wellbutrin, Synthroid, cytomel, hydrocodone and a morphine pain killer because I just had a knee replacement this past Monday. I was having these symptoms before the knee replacement. Therefore, I was not taking the hydrocodone or morphine. I will only be on that for a couple more weeks. My little sister has epilepsy.

Brief Answer:
Seizures need to be ruled out. Could be due to electrolyte imbalance.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone very carefully through your query. You need to have seizures ruled out as a possible cause of the involuntary muscle jerking. If it is not due to seizure activity, it is possibly due to electrolyte imbalance. I would insist you to take calcium and vitamin D3 supplements and also juicy fruits like citrus fruits, and bananas (since they contain plenty of potassium). I hope that should take care of the problem.

The itchiness is possibly unrelated and could be due to fungal infection. Try applying clotrimazole powder and see if it helps. Also take some antiallergic like cetirizine once daily for the next few days.

Hopefully that should help.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
