Question: joint tenderness...jaw....right elbow very tender hard to open a jar......right hip bursitis off and on.......have some sort of "auto immune thyroid" "disease" but very vague. Dad had polymyalgia rheumatica....my primary refuses to call it fibromyalgia....i've had xrays of my knees and spine and nothing LOOKS wrong on film.......i don't know whether to just deal with the soreness and flare ups..or pursue it. NOT into medications...just need an answer!!

Brief Answer:
Non-erosive arthritis does not show up on X-Rays

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have carefully gone through the details and understand your concerns. It seems that you are talking about Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I would be glad if you could mention the TSH levels (preferrably over a period of time).

In case of the knee pain, unless it is erosive in nature, it does not show on X-Rays. There are a number of causes of non-erosive arthritis. I would suggest you to get your ANA (anti nuclear antibody or anti nuclear factor) as well as RF (rheumatoid factor) tested and to share your report using the facility on the upper right of this page. That will enable me to comment further. Based on the reports I could comment whether the condition is likely to resolve soon or whehter you would just have to deal with it. However, in the meantime, applying hot compress will provide relief. You may take paracetamol/acetaminophen 1g as required. That will help in reducing the pain.

Hope that helps. I would await your response.

Regards
