Brief Answer:
Certain investigations need to be done to evaluate the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I am sorry to hear that your child is sick. Such symptoms are usually caused due to certain viral infections. But if the fever lasts for more than 7 days, as in this case, you need to get the blood tested to rule out typhoid. Widal test or Typhidot IgM test is done for the same. If the fever is associated with chills and rigors, it might be worthwhile to get the urine routine microscopy done to rule out urinary tract infection as well as a possible cause of the symptoms.

The fever is needs to be controlled by the use of paracetamol, and tepid sponging. The mininum interval between doses for paracetamol is 3-4 hours. The dose required is 15 mg/kg/dose. In case it does not seem to be effective, you can give Metal P (mefenamic acid) since it is more effective than paracetamol. But please note that it is a prescription drug and you may need to get it prescribed by your doctor.

Give him ORS or oral rehydration solution to prevent dehydration from developing. Ondansetron syrup can be given to control the nausea for vomiting. It is not unusual for children not to feed well when they are ill. But if the child grows lethargic or develops wheezing, you would have to take him to a pediatrician without delay.

Hope that helps.
