Question: Yes. Since lunch, my stomach feels like it tightens and then relaxes. Then it repeats. What can I do? The pain is a 5 on a scale of ten (with 10 being the worst). The pain lasts about 10 seconds then the pain ceases for a couple of minutes.

Brief Answer:
Causes and management of abdominal cramping

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the query at HealthcareMagic

Intermittent abdominal pain that is relieved by passing gas or bowel movement is less serious. It is indicative of Intestinal infection called gastroenteritis.
Gastroenteritis is managed by drinking plenty of fluids (fluids like Gatorade is better as it contains electrolytes), fluid diet like soup and BRAT (Bread, Applesauce, Rice and Toast) diet and adequate rest. The symptoms usually subside in a week.

However, if you notice worsening pain, pain no decreasing after 12 hours, pain that does not subside by passing gas or bowel movement, Inability to pass gas or have a bowel movement, pain localizing to particular area of abdomen, fever etc , it indicates more serious conditions like Peptic Ulcer, intestinal obstruction, block in mesenteric artery etc.
If any such symptoms develop please be advised to go to the emergency room.
