What Causes Intermenstrual Bleeding Post Intercourse?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Sep 2014
Question: I had vaginal intercourse 5 days ago with the protection of a male condom. My last period ended exactly a week ago. I began spotting then full on bleeding yesterday. There are no rashes, itches, burning, or painful urination accompanying this bleeding. I was wondering if this could be an STD? Like I said, it is a medium-heavy flow just like a normal menstrual period. If it is not an STD, how common is bleeding in between periods when you have a fairly consistent menstrual cycle?

Brief Answer:
It is not a very common problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
With your history it is clear that you are having post coital bleeding or intermenstrual bleeding which is not very common symptoms and it always needs evaluation.

Yes, STD can be cause of your problem but with your history chances are very less.

So please consult a gynaecologist and get yourself examined to rule out the other cause of bleeding.

I think I have answered your query if you have further questions I will be happy to help you.
Good luck.
Regards
Dr. Richa
