What Causes Insomnia After Taking Klonopin?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Apr 2017
Question: I have been on Klonopin at bedtime for 45 days. I only take a total of .5mg at night.
It is now causing insomnia and i would like to wean off this drug.
Rather than up the dosage to get the same effect, i feel coming off will be the better option at this point in time.
Do i need to taper? Or can i just stop since its only been 6 weeks?
I have no history of seizures , just GAD.

Brief Answer:
Ideally you should taper down

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Health care magic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Although ideally it should be taered down slowly but considering 6 weeks duration and searching potent alternative it can be stopped abruptly.

In case you go for some herbal supplements for sleep I will recommend slow tapering down of Clonazepam.

Even if you are not willing to go for any kind of alternative it will be better to taper down slowly.

To conclude I request you to opt for tapering down unless otherwise you are taking some similar kind of medicine for sleep.

I hope this answers you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.

What taper plan could i try to avoid side effects? Maybe i should taper rather than jump off .5 mg at once

Brief Answer:
Follow up

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.

I think a simple plan to reduce 25 % every week will be sufficient to avoid withdrawal effects.

You can continues as follows

Week one
Tab Clonazepam 0.25 mg one and half tablet

Week two

Tab Clonazepam 0.25 mg per day

Week 3

Tab Clonazepam 0.25 mg half tablet per day

I must acknowledge that 0.25 mg of clonazepam is not scored and you may find some difficulty to break it in half.

I hope this assists you further.
