Question: I have previously posted about my back pain, if you want to check that for additional info. My back pain started 1.5 weeks ago after trying to break up ice outside. It was lower right back pain. Since then, I have experienced left abdominal pain, then left lower back and now I have left lower back and left lower abdomen pain (the latter is mild). I have a lot of trouble getting up after sleeping and cannot sleep well. I use a pillow between my legs. When I am at work (health care aide) I notice the pain less. The less I move, the more it hurts. I am relatively comfortable while sitting. bending over hurts. I also can sleep better on a couch than on my bed. I have been more constipated than usual (usually I am not at all) and the other doc said that this mighjt be the cause for my abdominal pain. I have gone ffrom constipation to diarrhea today.

Brief Answer: Due to muscle stiffness. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for posting your query. The persistent and gradually increasing pain that you have that decreases with movement is likely to be due to muscle stiffness. Sometimes, it can be due to dehydration, muscle fatigue or electrolyte abnormalities. It is better to drink sufficient fluid and also see that your intake of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium ) is sufficient. You can drink Oralyte for this. This can be treated by (1) Avoiding any sudden movements (2) keeping yourself well hydrated (3) stretching the muscles involved (4) the use of anti inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, cataflam with meals provided there are no contraindications to their use (5) a muscle relaxant may be necessary Regular stretching exercises will help in bringing an early relief. It may be best, if possible to visit your doctor for a thorough assessment and treatment plan. I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out. Wishing you good health. Regards. Dr. Praveen Tayal.
