What Causes Increased White Discharge And Burning Sensation While Urination?

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Apr 2014
Question: Hi, I am 24 and just had sex for the first time in over 6 months. It's been a week, and now I'm experiencing an increase in daily discharge (no odor), that is either milky (normal), or foamy/bubbly (not normal?). It also feels like there is a little cut on my perineum so that it burns when I pee and wipe. I used a tampon in order to absorb the increased discharged (and I thought I would be getting my period because I have insane cramps and back pain), and when I went to change it, there was some light green color on it. I have an appointment with my gyno on Thursday, but is there anything I can do in the meantime? I know the vagina specializes in cleaning itself, but would anything help the discomfort in the meantime?

Brief Answer: Detailed explanation given below. Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome to HCM, I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries. I understand that you had a sexual episode after 6 months and are now having greenish discharge and a cut on the perineum. It seems that you are having an infection. It is better to get an examination and vaginal swabs tested to isolate the organisms. However as you have an appointment on Thursday this cannot be done now. So as of now, you may use a drug that is active against common organisms that produce an infection. Please use vaginal tablets that have a combination of the following drugs for 6 days: 1. clotrimazole: anti fungal agent and 2. metronidazole or secnidazole and 3. clindamycin [ commonly sold as 'clingen pessary' but may be a different brand in your place]. These three are helpful against most infections and will help in relieving your symptoms. The backache may be due to your periods or due to infection. If the cramps are severe or there is fever and you do not get your periods then it is likely that the infection may have gone up. In this case you may need oral or injectable antibiotics and must go to the ER for a prescription as soon as possible. Other important measures are change the undergarments and tampons at least twice daily. It is better to use sanitary napkins if there is an infection rather than tampons as tampons may cause a flare up of infections. Wash the undergarments with hot water. For the cut on the perineum use neosporin powder or mupirocin ointment thrice daily. Keep is as dry as possible and keep it open during the night time if possible to allow faster healing After use of vaginal tablets a vaginal swab tested for infection may show negative results as already you would have received drugs for the same. I understand that you are having a lot of problem. Please do not worry. These are common issues. They will heal. Hope this was helpful. Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help. Thanks for using HCM. Have a good day. Dr Nilajkumar Bagde Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology
