default
Posted on Sat, 6 Aug 2016
Question: Thank you. I walk about 1 hour a day, not at a fast pace, but a regular walk. I find I am sleeping more than seven hours now that I am retired and stay up late for my husband to get home from work (after 1) and then once in bed, sleep for 8-10 hours. I am also diabetic. Otherwise, no known health problems.

Forgot essential info: I am obese. I am 5'3" and weigh 179.

I have been reading and hearing that 7 hours is optimal, and to sleep more is a concern. I appreciate your saying that it is not a concern. I also wondered if that amount of sleep were a precursor or warning sign for congestive heart failure.
Those are what i am concerned about.

Brief Answer:
7 to 9 hours of sleep is fine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Good to hear from you.
Optimal is 7 hours, but anything between 7 to 9 hours of sleep is fine. You are going to get sleep more sleep it your are exhausted or tired.
In the absence of other symptoms like tiredness, dizziness, difficulty in breathing, chest discomfort. I don't think it is matter of concern.
I would suggest you to keep your blood sugar under control, and if you are anxious, I would suggest you to see physician for general examination.
Hope this helps
