What Causes High Fever,diarrhea And Excessive Burping In Children?

Question: My son has been running 101 fever for 2 days just started today with loose diarrhea not watery & today started with excessive burping & makes a burping sound n his throat afterwards. Should I b concerned?

Burping does not concern me. Bring down temperature by use of paracetamol.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Your son could be suffering from a gastrointestinal infection. Unless associated with bloody diarrhoea, the cause does not need to be corrected. It is self correcting and irrespective of the use of antibiotics, it makes 3-7 days to recover. The mainstay of treatment would be to bring down the temperature with the use of paracetamol or tylenol, and to replenish the lost fluids and salts by the use of ORS (oral rehdyration solution). The burping should be related to the infection. I would not be concerned about the burping. What is more concerning is that the fever needs to be controlled anyhow, by the use of medicines or tepid sponging.

Antacids can be given but are not mandatory. Rather, giving plenty of curd or yogurt will be beneficial.
