What Causes Herpes?

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Aug 2014
Question: I just got results from an STD test and came out positive on Herpes but I don't know what it means. I've had no outbreaks. The test reads as follows:
Herpes Simplex Virus Type I     26.70     0.00-0.90     Positive     07/22/2014     07/23/2014
Herpes Simplex Virus Type II     2.02     0.00-0.90     Positive     07/22/2014     07/23/2014
I am suicidal at this point. My doctor won't return my call. I was raped and that was bad enough but this is too much to bear.

Brief Answer:
Herpes positive is very common

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Herpes is caused by herpes viruses. As your tests show positive for 1 and 2 herpes it means that you have developed antibodies against these viruses. If you have not had outbreaks then you are among those who have been infected in the past, even years ago, and have a strong immune system which doesnt allow herpes to manifest.

There is no need to have negative thoughts or suicidal feelings on this matter. Being herpes positive is a common condition and the virus can be spread through close skin contact and does not always involve sexual contact.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
