What Causes Heavy Nose Bleeds And Swelling In Face

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Dec 2014
Question: My daughter is 23 and has been experiencing heavy nose bleeds which are very rare for her. She also looks as if her face is really swollen. She lives in XXXXXXX and I haven't seen her for a couple of months but I was shocked when I saw her. She says her face is so big lately. Could something medical be going on?

Brief Answer:
Need evaluation

Detailed Answer:
hello dear, welcome to HCM forum.
The most common causes of epistaxis are local trauma(like nose blowing or pricking) and drying up of mucosa. Usually this can be controlled by pinching the nasal ala for about 10 minutes while sitting upright, and need no further evaluation and management. If bleeding fails to control, we have to pack nasal cavity for few minutes with cotton socked in vasoconstrictors.

But, since she had a heavy bleeding, it is better to do a general and ENT examination and blood work up(blood count and coagulation profile).Kindly see an ENT specialist for the same.If her face is really swollen, you may be asked for other investigations like imaging of the head and sinuses.

Hope this will answer your query.
If you have further questions, I will be happy to help.
Thank you.
