What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding In An Elderly Person?
Question: Hello, I am a 51 year old woman who has not had a regular period for 3 months. Three days ago I started menstruating with a very heavy flow, filling up a Super Tampon and a pad every hour. Should I wait until Monday for a doctor's visit or should I see someone sooner?

Brief Answer:
Visit ER if bleeding very heavy
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Heavy bleeding after a period of amenorrhea is indicative of dysfunctional uterine bleeding, which is common in perimenopausal period.
You should go to the ER as soon as possible if the bleeding is very heavy.
You can take tranexemic acid tablets two to three times a day, if you are unable to go to ER, to reduce the flow.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Wishing you good health.
