Question: When I awake in the morning I notice that my heart rate elevates for a few minutes - probably due to something stressful that is going on in my life- is this a dangerous condition? It lasts for about 5 minutes and seems to subside on it's own- with some deep breathing

I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern I would explain that your symptoms are just a normal physiological response to waking up process which happens in all normal and healthy persons.

You should know that waking up is a kind of stress for our body as we change from a sleeping state, with a low body activity to an active situation.

This activates the sympathetic nervous system, thus leading to increased heart rate.

From the other hand it is well known that this response is more prominent in anxious or sensitive persons.

Besides, all your cardiac tests have resulted normal.

So, you have nothing to worry about!

Just relax and don't think about it any more!

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
