Question: Hello can you tell me if there is a link between chest pain and menopause. I am 52 and for the past 2 years have suffered palpatations, pain , pressure cramps in my left breast/ chest area and in my throat and neck. An ECG, Echocardiogram and excersise test were normal but I still suffer a lot of chest pain.

Brief Answer:
Both are possibly related to each other

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.

I understand your query and concern.

Certainly menopause is associated with cardiovascular disturbances in the form of chest discomfort and palpitations.

This is usually related to the lack of oestrogen in menopause called as Vasomotor symptoms.

Since your cardiac work up is normal ,you need not worry much.

Suitable Hormone replacement therapy will help to control your Vasomotor Symptoms.

Consultation with your Gynaecologist will help to sought this issue with ease.

Post your further queries,if any.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Gynaecologists are more well versed in dealing such issues.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.

I understand your concern.

Hormone replacement therapy is usually provided by Gynaecologist who are more well versed with the menopausal changes in hormones than an Endocrinologist.

Endocrinologist can only play a supplementary role if any.

Majority of such issues are dealt by Gynaecologist by default.

Thank you.
